Education
The River Thames Society has an Education Officer who is responsible for providing a service for schools and individual students at all levels, as well as clubs, societies and other groups of interested adults.
The Society, via the Education Officer, endeavours to provide assistance to enquirers
at all levels, whether the request is for specific answers to particular queries, or more general
advice to Primary School children involved in the 'river study' at Key Stage 2. This assistance can
range from advice on useful source books, contact addresses for more specific information or even,
in some circumstances, practical help with projects or theses.
In addition, the Education Officer can arrange speakers for schools, clubs and societies to give talks on a variety of aspects of the River Thames. This service is normally available only to venues within the Thames Valley although please do not hesitate to contact the Education Officer wherever you are. Our members are located nationally and it may be possible to link up with someone local.
The Education Officer is also normally able to provide experienced and knowledgeable guides for towpath walks and riverside field days. These escorted outings can either be of a general nature or more specifically aimed at a geographical, historical or environmental theme.
Booking a visiting Speaker or Riverside Guide may involve some cost, in particular the re-imbursement of expenses to the Society Member responding to the request, but all the other services outlined above are free and provided by the Society.
