Upper Tideway Branch

Thursday 5th. Eel Pie Museum and Twickenham Riverside talk and walk. A 30-45 minute talk at the museum, and walk along the Embankment. Archive photos will be used to compare then and now. The event will end on the Embankment (c.8.45-9pm), with folk able to slope off to the Barmy Arms or wander down the island path (unaccompanied, as they cannot take groups on to the island itself). Meet at the front of the Eel Pie Museum, 1-3 Richmond Rd, TW1 3AB. Free to members of the museum, £5 for non-members of the museum – this will include an Eel Pie passport which entitles the holder to one year’s free access to the museum.


Sunday 12th. Row up the Arcadian Thames from the Flower Pot Islands to the White Swan, Twickenham and back. Come along as a passenger on one of two traditional Thames rowing boats. Meet at the gate outside 3 Ducks Walk, Twickenham at 3pm. Please note that passenger space is limited. If you wish to come on this event please contact John Maguire.


Sunday 2nd. TideFest – Kew Bridge, Strand on the Green, and elsewhere along the river. Planning for this event is still at an early stage but RTS-organised events are likely to include:

- A boat trip round the Brentford Islands on the Dunkirk Little Ship Windrush 46

- A boat trip to Chiswick Pier to visit the historic houseboats and RNLI station

- Vouchers to allow discounted use of the rowing boats at Richmond Bridge

- Visits to the Eel Pie Island Museum

Further notification will be sent when the plan for the event is firmed up.

Saturday 8th. The Great River Race. Come along to the riverside at Ham from 12noon and cheer on the RTS Cutter. There will be bars, food, music, cannons and much more. 


Central Tideway and Estuary Branch

Thursday 26th. Guided tour of Tower Bridge, followed by a pub lunch. Meet at the entrance at 11am. Nearest station Tower Hill (Circle and District lines). £6.15 entrance fee for concessions plus a share of the tour guide fee of £66. Please contact Jacqui to book a place.


Wednesday 15th. Explore the Thames Path in the Branch’s area with the RTS chairman. Meet at 11am at Imperial Wharf Station (London Overground and Southern lines). Lunch en route, duration to be agreed on the day. No need to book. For information contact Peter Finch at or on 07711 419772.


Tuesday 11th. Visit to The Mithraeum, a reconstructed Roman temple with a selection of artefacts found on the site. It may be possible to arrange a guided tour nearer the time. Please contact Jacqui to book a place.
